History of Living Independence for Elders (L.I.F.E)

Living Independence for Elders (L.I.F.E.) - Senior Support Centre was initiated at a community meeting in the fall of 1987 at the Lakeshore Hospital Boardroom in Ashern.

In 1988, L.I.F.E was incorporated as a non-profit organization and registered charity. The same year, the first Resource Coordinator was hired.

In the fall of 1992, the L.I.F.E Directors sponsored the Ashern Adult Day Program which provides activities, recreation and support in a small group program for adults.

In 1995, the L.I.F.E Directors again took a sponsorship with the Ashern Meal Program at the Ashern Pioneer Manor. In 2003, the Ashern Meal program expanded to provide a coordinator for a seven-day program and also expanded the Meals on Wheels delivery to the community of Moosehorn.

In May 2008, the L.I.F.E Office and Adult Program relocated to its current location at the TBJ Mall.
